My Sadness To Stay With Poem by Shalom Freedman

My Sadness To Stay With

MY SADNESS TO STAY WITH

I don't know where I would go to often
If I did not have my sadness to stay with-

Sadness and more sadness
In memory of what life takes from us-

Loss is an old person's necessary legacy-
Sadness is a kind of reconciliation with one's lost self-

The world we have lived in and lost
In old age
Is greater than the one we will ever know again-

Sadness and more sadness
Is the legacy of the years
In which so many and so much have been lost.
