My Old Cedar Chest Poem by Melissia Ann Senter

My Old Cedar Chest

In an old cedar chest in my room
is a box of old hidden treasures
I have tucked away through the years
Things that could never be replaced

If ever they were lost for instance
My old Dukes Of Hazard Dolls my Mom
Bought me for my birthday one year

Old love letters from old loves
from my past pictures of days gone by
Like me sitting on Santa's lap
telling him what i want for Christmas

Old Christmas decorations y kids have
Made me down through the years made
Of cracked walnut shells and old puzzle pieces
To my little girls first tooth she lost
Or a letter my son wrote to his first crush

In kindergarten they made me these precious
little brown bear brown bear books
I have treasured for many years and will
for many more years to come

I could go on and on about my hidden
treasures in that old cedar chest
For instance like the first card the kids
Daddy bought me for our first Valentines day together

To things from my childhood
such as a old bird watch my dad
bought me for my birthday
When i was about ten years old
Things like a letter my Mom wrote to
me when i turned eighteen years old

The picture she drew for my birthday
in 1983 these are things that are
Very dear to my heart and I will
Always cherish my hidden treasures in
That old cedar chest in my room
