My Mocking Jay Poem by Aaron Waingrow

My Mocking Jay

Caged covered silenced and put down
Instead of flying free you barely flutter around
Not a house filled with song and singing till night
She was stashed away and kept out of sight
I pick her up and caress her gently yet no sound
Beckoning for a note, she just looks away to frown

Caged covered silenced and put down
Instead of flying free you barely flutter around
You should be out free to sing and fly all day
How can they dare have you living this way
I will sneak you out to live in a home with me
Where you can fly and sing and just be free

Caged covered silenced and put down
Instead of flying free you barely flutter around
I tell you the story of when you could not roam
And why I had to save you to live in my home
Now flying free singing an angelic beautiful song
You now trust and love your recovery was not long

Caged covered silenced and put down
Instead of flying free you barely flutter around
I could not bear to see you die from how you live
Only thing I could do was offer you all I could give
Never caged covered silenced or put down
Finally free you always sing flying around
