My Little Pony Poem by Paula Glynn

My Little Pony

Rating: 5.0

My Little Pony, that favourite,
Childhood classic,
Little girls across the world,
Loving their toy,
And there are many other,
Toys for girls in abundance,
Girls not encouraged,
To play with action dolls,
Transformers, Lego and also other,
'Boy' toys stereotype.
This defines girls:
Of what they should grow into.

I remember Cabbage Patch dolls,
Barbie and Sindy dolls,
And how I loved fairy dolls,
A special one,
Being given to me from Mummy,
But I did also love playing boy's games,
With my brother,
And growing up a tomboy,
I've retained that masculinity,
Although I am still a Barbie fan at heart.

I learnt through playing with the boys,
Boys games exciting and action packed,
And I always was one of the lads,
But I still loved My Little Pony,
Proud to be a girl and not ashamed to be me,
And even now I follow dares with courage,
All thanks to my brother:
He taught me to think like a boy,
And through this, I learnt how to be a girl,
And then how to be a woman.

For playing teaches children,
How to be adults,
And how to be a smart, happy adult,
For no parents wants to cause emotional pain,
Teaching children to be rational and sane,
Is the aim, and toys aren't there for fun alone:
They are there for education in all of life,
Teaching children the value of themselves,
And other children,
Such as I learnt when I played with My Little Pony,
And being one of the boys.
