What would you do,
What would you say
if somehow you knew
it would be his last day?

How would you act,
either happy or sad,
knowing that day
you were losing your Dad?

Would you mend broken fences
or uncover white lies,
or just tell him you love him
while you stare in his eyes?

With time to prepare
and the knowledge of when,
this is how I think
our day would begin:

Two cups of coffee
with an equal or two,
chocolate donut for me,
frizzy biscuits for you.

Watch the news on TV
to determine the weather,
hop on our bikes
and take off together.

You lead the way
say my pipes are too loud,
I obey your road rules
making you proud.

We stop for a while
to shoot a few rounds
then to Conway Tavern
to gain a few pounds.

You beat me in pool
as we drink a Bud Light,
finish our burgers,
time to take a short flight.

The sun is setting,
flying low over the bay,
thank you Dad
for another perfect day.

My first gun, a Harley,
and a couple tattoos,
thank you Dad
for all that you do.

You live in my heart,
forever you'll stay,
I love you Dad
more than words can say.

Poignant, impassioned write, young lady. I was immediately drawn to the title, as my Dad passed away in September of Alzheimer's....and in my case....i knew what would happen...knew it was terminal...and could do nothing but watch my best friend & mentor fade away. Very Nice Work, Karen...I'm sure your DAD would be proud of this penning & your talent to create it. FjR
