My Grief Poem by Janis Land Raymer

My Grief

Like a child lost in the dark
I wander-
confused and frightened
just when I think I've accepted
you're gone-
something rips the wound open-
years of neglect...
ignoring the pain...
hiding the tears...
running from regret...
ooze from the gaping hole in my heart
like an infection...
bacteria and germs
creating more disease-
leading to additional pain
possible amputation
gangrene
death-
of tissue,
of existence,
death.
