My Gods Won't Listen Poem by Julie Smith

My Gods Won't Listen

Rating: 3.8

Victory, why are you feeling so blue?
Because I won't be heard by the Gods I pray to
Great Jupiter, listen
Your Psyche is calling
To help her find the one she has lost by falling
Cupid's his name and love his device
Raised by Mars and vain Venus' child
Goddess Fortuna, please let me be
Your partner in crime when I can't see
Where I'm heading in my attempt
To avoid cursed Nemesis' revenge
Hercules, I need to borrow your strength
To endure this pain with common sense
Cleopatra, I need your Isis power
Give me some potion and a miracle flower
So I can make Marc Antony mine
Don't want to use this poison to make me feel fine
Golden blue Thetis, Queen of the sea
I pray you, stand by me so I can breathe
Send all your waves to his distant shore
And let them tell him I'll love him forevermore
All you deities, do you not see my despair?
Justitia, do you really think this is fair?
I'm not Delilah, I'm not telling lies
Won't ever betray him, Samson, hear my cries
Mercury, my messenger, tell him I miss him
And please let him know that if I can't kiss him
I'll share poor Ophelia's fate
And go down to Hades before it strikes eight

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Seems like they left me all alone. Hope it will be good for something, like last time. I hope they will come back to help me again...

Julie, the gods never leave you all alone. They are always with you. Sometimes when you close your eyes and meditate, you may feel their presence. And they will guide you. They will let you know if you should wait for that special person to return. Or to move on with your life. I've shared this with you because I've experienced it. And because this is one of the most beautiful poems about a broken heart that I've ever read. Maybe even better than your well deserved Poem Of The Day. Really enjoyed reading them both. Please keep them coming.

Hi Julie, This is very much in my territory and I'm going to put it on my favourites' list. This calling up the Deities reminds me so much of one of my favourite poems of all Time. This is Virgil's 10th Eclogue which contains that beautiful line.. Omnia vincit Amor et nos cedamus Amori... Love conquers all and we must yield to love! In this poem Virgil's friend Gallus is having woman trouble. The lady in question was a girl fried of Mark Anthony but more recently has become an Army groupie, dashing off to the Rhine border to eye up the local eye candy! Virgil calls up the Gods to help his friend but finds there's no cure for Love! I trust your outcome was better. It certainly deserves to be. Beautiful poem. Well done.

Thanks so much for your words, this means a lot. I've become interested in the topic of mythology in April and now I've combined my favourite figures in one poem :) That's truly a beautiful and true line, thank you for telling me about it :) My outcome, well yes I guess it's better hehe thanks so much also for favouriting.
