My Friend Poem by Mariann Gentile

My Friend

Rating: 4.7

When clouds are gathered overhead, and rain falls from the sky,
You are my umbrella, that keeps me warm and dry.

When I and down and lonely, feeling I have gone astray,
You wrap your arms around me and say 'It'll be okay.'

When I fall flat on my face and am unable to stand,
You're the one that gets me to my feet, who offers me a hand.

And when I stray from life's path, and fear my pain will never end,
You're standing right beside me still. I'm glad you are me friend.

Simple and straightforward enough, rhyming couplets in the epistrophe form- addressed to her friend who is helpful, reliable and always there for her. A true friend. I like the metaphor of the umbrella in the rain.

I think in the second verse first line you meant to say when I am down and lonely.... Nonetheless, the poem is a sincere praise for a good friend. Kudos!
