My Eyes Poem by Kholofelo Malemela

My Eyes

This is what my eyes have showed me.

I've seen a woman beat down by a man,
drama, violence, rape and torture
I've seen a woman bleed from being kicked and beat
Lips burst, ribs broken and heart torn apart.

I've watched a woman cry over a man she loved that didn't love her back

I've seen a man beat up the mother of his children right in front of their eyes

I've seen a man make out of his own children prostitutes just so he can get money to buy booze

I've seen a man molest and torture his whole family
A man pleasing his mates at the cost of his entire family

I've seen children cry themselves to sleep because their daddy just didn't care

I've seen it all in my lifetime,
but then again, i've seen a woman forgive a man after all that he has done

I've seen a woman gather her kids and tell them everything is gonna be alright
I've seen a woman give back her brokenself to a man that tore her apart in the first place

I've seen the measure of a woman's forgiveness, the degree of her resilient heart.
