My Epiphany Poem by Clare Suffell-Pearson

My Epiphany

Rating: 5.0

Today I took the life of a creature,

Tiny and unassuming,

And yet I took it still.

Not threatened by it,
Indeed, I was intrigued,
to see a creature such as that,
So far into the winter months.
I watched it hoover and climb a wall drunkenly,
Like an old man stumbling how after a night at his local.
It needed to rest, but didn’t know how.

It did have the knowledge that it’s efforts were just bringing its demise closer
by
the
second.

Or was it fighting the good fight,
Carrying on until the bitter end
Never give up:
Tally Ho!

I watched that creature and shuddered -
A harbinger, a warning.

I needed to go.
Spent too long watching
Too much to do
People to see - Places to go - Is to dot and Ts to cross!

I still didn’t understand,
The message hadn’t landed.
So the messenger took a different tact -
It landed
It made it’s point
Straight into my back -

The bee was dead
But I understood
