My Dutch Clock Poem by Ruth Walters

My Dutch Clock

Rating: 5.0

I bought a tiny, dainty clock,
(tick tock, tick tock goes my little clock)
but it doesn't tell the time a lot
though it gives my hall a tiny heart
as it beats its drum all day.

It greets me when I come inside
(tick tock, tick tock goes my little clock)
and I look at it with a tender pride
for it's like a tiny little child,
all small and cute I'd say.

I bought it at a tourist shop,
(tick tock, tick tock goes my little clock)
on holiday, it was, it was
and its never worked since then, tick tock
its never worked a day.

So that's what makes it a special clock
(tick tock, tick tock goes my little clock)
for it ticks a lot and it never stops,
but it never tells the time a lot,
though I love it anyway.

There's something so cute about this poem. I love it. Not everything cherished needs to work properly.

Often the most loveable critters/things/people are those that aren't perfect, their imperfections, their vulnerabilities making them impossible not to love.

I would alter the last 3 lines to read thusly (aka like this) : 'for it ticks a lot and it never stops; it never tells the time a lot, but I love it anyway.' [ I added a semicolon at end of 1sr of 3 lines ]. bri : )

'HOLIDAY' I think is the Britishers' idea of how to say 'vacation'! ! ! : )))) I like the repetition of words/phrases, esp. imitating the sound of some clocks.

Having a hall with a tiny heart is IMPORTANT TO SOME people. Before I forget, I give this 5 stars because I like the poem and the poet, & Ruth could use some more READERS & COMMENTS; couldn't we all? ? ! ! !

Hey this is getting complicated (leaving comments while also copying a comment to paste to Ruth in a 'message'. PH COULD cooperate a bit more, ...but it STILL is FREE! Thanks, PH. ;)

My 1st comment on My Dutch Clock: 'Here you use 'it's' for 'it is': 'for it's like a tiny little child, ' BUT then twice you use 'its' Instead of 'it's' for 'it has'. 'Go To Your Room', little Miss Ruth! ! !
