My Dream Time. Poem by Hazel Durham

My Dream Time.

Rating: 5.0

A quiet moment in time,
It is six o'clock as the church clock chimes,
I'm living life backwards,
Creating my own show of mime,
I see in the distance tall trees reaching to dreams of clouds,
I hear the sound of water trickling from a broken down-pipe,

I look deeply at myself,
I have an urge to write and then type,
My simmering feelings,
As the birds sing in the dying spring sunlight,
Quenching my thirst for a new beginning,
To start on a blank page with hindsight

Of hard lessons learnt along my creeping life story,
I imagine skies falling to the deepest blue oceans,
Barren mountains climbing to higher notions,
Living backwards is putting my world right,
The night captures the daylight,
I ask for answers to the moon shimmering so bright,

It's a question of feeling true,
To light a candle to encourage the ghosts of the past,
To be part of my dreaming time,
As I switch the light off in my bedroom,
The darkness dances with my departed family and friends,
They leap around my bedroom with an everlasting joy of no tomb,

They are all part of my dream time,
That is a touch of serenity in this rhyme.

A travel back to life in the quiet evening with the intention of putting your world right! Past incidents are played back on life's screen and you see your family and friends! You feel they are not away but very much around and you derive a new spirit and joy from them! A great write Hazel!

You have very rightly pointed out that, ' living backwards is putting my world right.' If we can look back into the past and establish a harmonious relationship with it, it can do us a world of good. In this context I would like to quote Jiddu Krishnamurthy, the great philosopher who says, ' The ability to observe without evaluating is the highest form of intelligence, ' and so it is important that we evaluate our present and the past with a sense of neutrality, as if we are watching a film of oneself. I am also deeply fascinated by your such precious line, 'They leap around my bedroom with an everlasting joy of no tomb.' To sum up, this is poetic brilliance. ....10

We all make mistakes in life, experience can sometimes be very costly, in more ways than one. Thinking back to happier times spent with loved ones, family and friends, can be therapeutic. Bringing a sense of serenity. Remembering those loved ones that are now passed on is a tribute to them. A celebration to their memory. They are part of who you are, it is they who moulded you. A lovely, touching, sentiment.
