My Daddy's Girl Poem by Melissa Bange

My Daddy's Girl

Rating: 5.0

I spent my life searching for a man
Cause I didn't fit into my daddy's plan
I was just a pawn to settle the score
I know I'll never be my daddy's girl

You're just a stranger who drinks bottle after bottle
Burying regret with every swallow
Said you were sorry for how things turned out
I'm the one who's sorry now

Where were you
When I cried for you?
Where were you
When I was scared?
Were you scared to?

I came to you with a second chance
But you hold that bottle, not my hand
Slurry words and tearful eyes
Can't make up for years of lies

I put away the pain that you weren't there
What hurts now is that you still don't care
After all this time you don't know who I am
I'm done trying to fix a broken man

What I wanted most of all
Was to be my daddy's girl
Sometimes the pieces don't fit
Sometimes broken can't be fixed

Where were you
When I cried for you?
Where were you
When I was scared?
Were you scared to?
Daddy did you ever care?
