My Colour In India Poem by Ahmad Savage

My Colour In India

Though it was insulting yet I had to bear
For to be black was a curse here in India
No one spat at me, but many steered at me
As if I was as ugly as the Kraken of the sea
Back in my village I had been the handsomest
But then in India I was like an ugly bird's nest
Where every man lays his eggs as laughter
Then giggle pass me as if they were smarter
So strong a pain that I could hardly explain
All that was done to this little brain of mine
Then Tears had trickled down the cheeks of my heart
Letting me know I was on the wrong part of the earth
Now that I remember those awful moments
The more entrusted I feel to write these sonnets
