My Child Poem by Abdulhakim Haliru

My Child

O ye life long dream of mine,
You are the fruit of my marriage,
a life long dream of mine.

When womanhood came,
Thou became the centre of my life,
An epitome of beauty,
The beauty of marriage.

You made me endure…
The pains of a stranger,
Lo thy father.

Thou brought me pains…
The pains of labour,
A contrast of ecstasy,
The ecstasy of ploughing.

O child of mine,
You made me sell my pride,
The pride of womanhood,
Ye gladdens my heart,
Never shall I cry.
