My Brother Poem by Thomas PJ New Delhi

My Brother

Far he went at tender age
Far he stayed all his life
Far from home, kiths and kin
Far aloft the hills so high
Far in the lands of Thunder Dragon

He swung bridges across ridges
He scaled mountains steep ‘n high
On mule and horse he crawled
Walked he miles up the hills
Time nor place he cared
No food, nor drink, nor roof
Toiled all day, day after day

He longed for home and love
Cloistered in solitary shacks
Day after day, year after year
Many a friends had he at work
None at the end of day’s work
Yet he laughed and joked
He longed for home and love

Brother unseen for years
Quick on thought, quick on feet,
There he comes just for a night
A night I cannot thank him for
Night that made my daughter's life
She found someone better than her Dad

His clock kept chiming aloud
His calendar moved apace
Another month to go he said
He called all to share his joy
Days passed and he joyed
He counted days, day after day
He longed for home and love

Never knew his day’s counted
He never cared to share his ill
Kept saying all is well
He ran his race faster than all
Settled his filial charges anon
Nature played its part to help
He left with nothing undone

May his Soul rest in peace.
