My America Poem by Lawerence Mize, Sr.

My America

Rating: 5.0

I thought that I
had lost my mind
Reading logic
Reading rhymes
Of words from men
with greater minds
Written in the past
the harder times
Yet know I they
who I thought so grand
Chose this their place
instead of other lands
They came with rags
upon their backs
Then rose to heights
to make their names last
These rugged men
so pure of heart
Set to task
right from the start
They showed their worth
by all their deeds
With worn rough hands
and countless seeds
They built a nation
great and free
That let the world know
It was here for thee
Full of promise
for a better life
A place for kids
A loving wife
America...
She was called
Home to one
Home to all
Lucky am I
to live within
A country born
of such courageous men
In God we trust
No tyranny
Free to be
What we want to be
But, work we must
to get ahead
Provide a shelter
Wherein to make our beds
Yet there are those
who are content
To create havoc
tear a rent
Scream for change
while staying idle
Looting and burning
while their city is dying
They call for justice
but cannot wait
Rush to judgement
on others fates
My America
needs peace and calm
Not senseless violence
People doing wrong
We wait to see
what time will bring
hold on tight
to our liberty

Beautiful tribute to a unique and wonderful country, America, like no other. Also realistic view of our dangerous present that has to be addressed before it is too late. I thank you for writing such a honorable and patriotic piece that should be read by all loving Americans
