Music Ark Poem by gershon hepner

Music Ark

When listening to Bruckner do
you cringe or do you fall asleep,
and when it's Brahms you listen to
do you believe he was a creep,
as Wagner thought, and by the way,
what do you think about that giant?
Do you walk out when people play
his music, deafened and defiant,
opposing views that he expressed
not just in prose but with his Muse,
proposing views good men detest,
yes, even if they are not Jews?
When Ludwig’s music’s being play
are you dismayed because he raged
when, by Napoleon led astray,
with revolution he engaged,
creating a roman a clef,
Eroica, and then withdrew
from lesser mortals, stony deaf,
and bade the hearing world adieu?
When Mozart, Schubert, Schumann are
performed aren’t cockles of your heart
inflamed by every measured bar,
because these men were more than smart,
most loveable, as was, indeed,
Giuseppe from Bussetto, Verdi?
If you to facts like this pay heed
it must be that you're somewhat nerdy,
in which case probably you love
all music by Sebastian Bach,
who of suspicion is above,
like Noah in a music Ark.
