Murderer Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Murderer

Murderer

Good for me and neighbors
‘All Chinese'
My bathtub is small.
All around are handles not to fall
The oldies are around.
On floor now and then one can see fallen hair.

But today
I saw more, a bundle
I was wrong
It was moth
A lost one
Flapped wings and tried to get out.
I believe I noticed when was late
Not too late but for me; the careless ignorant
This brute, murderer
I let go
Shame on me
Hot water must have burned
‘Like the girl, Rabeeh'

Cruel I, just stood and observed
Shame on me
Finally
It was gone, washed away while alive.

Shame on me
Then I thought "Displaced", which I am.
I have seen
I know well, like Nemat the Afghan; Yazidis in Iraq and elsewhere.

Displaced is victim to all sorts of forces
Even kind in the church
‘To convert'
Full of shame and head down
I confess: "I am a murderer."
I deserve punishment "I killed her."
Killed a moth; murderer.
