Mumbai Remembers 26/11 Poem by Sandra Martyres

Mumbai Remembers 26/11

Rating: 5.0

This day will remain deeply etched
In the minds of the citizens of Mumbai
It is unforgettable for reasons that
Are really best forgotten-
It was the day when terrorism
Like lightening struck the towers
Of some of the city’s prize monuments
Engulfing them in flames while
The sounds of thunder reverberated
From deep within shaking the faith
And the confidence of the city and the nation
People just ran helter skelter as if possessed
No place seemed safe on that fateful day
Red rivulets trailed behind the ambulances
As they made their way to the hospitals
Carrying the remains of the massacred -
Victims of the terrorists’ brutality and bullets
The targeted buildings and areas kept
Billowing thick black smoke and red flames
Into the atmosphere for seventy-two hours
Until the saviours descended sliding down
Ropes suspended in mid air from helicopters
To rescue the hostages from the throes of death
And their ordeal stage managed by their captors
But the pall of gloom remained over the city for days
As it mourned its dead and saluted its heroes

What a sad thing it was. I hope someday things like this just can't happen anymore. I know it's wishful thinking though..

I just learned from you that your office is in front of that hotel.and was i glad you were spared. Thanks God. Sadly, I cannot fathom why there are people who love to hurt others, and happy to have done that beastly act. Thanks for sharing, Sandra.

although we'd want to forget such terrible tragedies like this, only by remembering can we hope that we do what is necessary to prevent them from happening again...

Sandra, hopefully one day the world will learn from these past horrors and the thought of terrorism will just become a distant memory. Sadly for now the threat is all too real and the sorrow for those lost in these attacks still hurts very deeply. A lovely, but sad poem that reflected that day very well. My heart goes out to all those who were effected by this tragedy. Top marks and thanks for sharing this with us my friend. Hugs David
