Mr. Luck Poem by Aminath Neena

Mr. Luck

Oh Mr. luck

Why won’t you smile for me, just once?

You’ve never glanced in my direction

Not for a split second

From the time I was born

I have been deprived of your affection

You had

Rejected me

Abandoned me

Ignored me

Oh Mr. luck

You never once visit me

Except in my dreams

And even then

You let me wake up

Filling me with despair

You appear with a wink

At every twilight

As a bright star

And longingly, I stare

Then you make me blink

Disappearing from sight

And I weep in the dark

Desperate for your light

Oh Mr. Luck

When I am outside

You stay inside

When I fall asleep

You stay awake

When I want the sun

You fall as rain

You tease me

Fluttering your wings like a bird

And when I chase you

You run faster than me

Till I stop, breathless

Oh Mr. Luck

Remember the time

You frowned at me

When I couldn’t reach you

As I was under age

And did not possess a license

“You’re not thirty yet

You aren’t liable, ” they mocked

Well, Now I am over that stage

Yet you still abide by this nonsense

Oh Mr Luck

Remember the time

I saw your sister shooting over the galaxy

Through her, I sent a message

And you had shooed her away

Like a blistering pest

All because it was only me

your not- so best

Oh Mr Luck

Remember the time I bit my nails

In anticipation of your arrival

I had saved every scrap of nail that I bit

Collected and packed it in a bottle

Later to throw it into the pacific

So that it may prove my undying faith

Oh Mr. Luck

Did I ever complain

When you shone on them

Every single mortal

Man, beast or animal

Flora and fauna

Flotsam and jetsam

In some way

Or the other

At some point in their lives

Instead, I smiled for you and the blessed ones

Genuinely from my depths

Oh Mr. Luck

Don’t you love me even a tiny bit?

Can’t you see the tears in my eyes?

Don’t you see that I can’t hold them anymore?

Oh Mr. Luck

I’ve waited for you all my life

Please, just for once

Shine your magic upon me

Hold me in your arms

Chase this darkness away

Oh Mr. Luck

Fill me with your divine lamp

Let me shine bright

Just this night

Be mine,

Because I need you so bad

Oh Mr. Luck

Help me forget the past

Of endless other nights, so dark

Give me one last chance

Show me that you were mine once

Before my forever- cast

From this three dimensional grave yard
