Mother Teresa - Eternal Saint.... Poem by krishnakumar chandrasekar nair

Mother Teresa - Eternal Saint....

Festering wounds, broken ribs
Raking coughs, oozing pus
She did see it all
She heard it all
And she did not walk by
(Like so many of us would)
She bent over the gutters
Immune to filth, immune to stench
And lifted those frail human beings
Caught between barbed wires of life and death
In pain, in desolation, in deprivation stifling
To her wide open home of motherly comfort spread
‘Cause She saw something that others didn't see
The soul of the divine that is in all including you and me…..

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This happened a very long time ago in paradise. An angel opened an ornate celestial window and looked down on planet earth. She found the green and blue earth like an emerald floating in cosmic space. Let me take a closer look she said. She then put on a special celestial binoculars and zoomed in. Her gaze fell on Calcutta and on its scenes of poverty and suffering. What am I doing here she asked herself. She then went up to the Lord to ask permission to go down there and help. The Lord looked at her with compassion and politely declined. This happened several for several days and this angel never gave up hope. One evening, She decided to disobey her Lord and stole the golden key to the huge ornate door. It was midnight in celestial space when she floated down to earth with a tear in her eye and a steely resolve in her heart. The next day the other angels reported to the lord about their missing colleague. But He only responded with silence and an understanding smile…….Now we know the story of this angel who came to be known as Mother Theresa….

Superb poem, and I like also very much the story in the poet's notes. We can all learn so much from Mother Teresa. Happiness lies in helping people in need, and I think Mother Teresa was perhaps the one person on earth who ever understood it best. The saints of the past deserve our attention so much, especially in times like this
