Mother Of War Poem by Lubna Hazeem

Mother Of War

Faint whispers from the hopes we failed
Are carried across the anger of the seas
Towards the shores where greed prevailed
And turned the sands into a liquid of agony

Prayers of peace we no longer see
What we believe is what we repeat
Poems ands songs were made of our words
Still our tangled tongues speak for the world
Counting, how many times you've heard, you've heard
How it all started with the likes of our foolish shepherds

They stood as the mother of war gave birth
Only to be killed and slaughtered afterwards
Our souls felt pain and it made them sore
And so was the rest of the world, world

With our mouths, we stutter
Wherever consious hovers
Our voice echoes forever
We carry a scar together

Because the world today, the world today
I heard them say what i never thought they'd say

They say: the world was a promise we broke
And now the world is a lump in our throats
The source of fear, not the source of hope
And where can we find it, does anybody know?

Clinging to our needs, we plead
Searching for a sense of permanancy
Peace is the mother of our monstrosity
So is there no way for us to proceed?

Oh, i know, you see
With eyes as wide as me
You don't want to go to sleep
Doubting you may ever wake
