Mother, I Cannot Mind My Wheel Poem by Sappho

Mother, I Cannot Mind My Wheel

Rating: 3.2

Mother, I cannot mind my wheel;
My fingers ache, my lips are dry;
Oh! if you felt the pain I feel!
But oh, who ever felt as I!

I learned this verse in high school (Taft in Chicago in about 1954-55. It has never left my memory. I am now 80. My English teacher was very strict and outstanding. I was able to by pass freshman English and the University of Illinois. Would love to know more about Sappho. Thank you!
