Monuments Poem by Lonnie Hicks

Monuments

You don't have to be a fairy princess for me
your thickenings
your maturings
are made
from making our babies
like yeast rising
in the oven
in which you bake.
you have risen
to all my expectations
your body
has soften
making mine
and yours
softly bounce
in these
our middle years
where my lust for you
also rises
because I see in your
both your and my own
history
my sense of manliness
takes pride
in having slept with you
long years
known territory
fruitful years
and you have blossomed.
Once I
I admit
loved slim stemmed roses
but now I appreciate
rose blossomings
and that is how it should be
better to match
my our weed
somewhat overgrown
but still hunger
to plant our seeds
for yet another generation.
Don't dare you
shrink from this
our bodies
for we two
have made
them
if we look closely
of them
our monuments.
