Monumental Ego And The Ocean's Fine Sand Poem by Chuy Amante

Monumental Ego And The Ocean's Fine Sand

Who would stand strong, firm against the ocean?
Would they last forever, with strong devotion?

Devoted to self, the eternal stone Sphinx,
More precious and enduring than golden cuff links

Humans stand so firm, as solid as El Capitan
Who could ever destroy a powerful man?

Imagine a monument unyielding, rigid,
then place it in
the Blue Ocean frigid.

The Sea so flowing, supple and soft,
can never damage, crack it or chip off?

Perhaps the ocean, from where life came,
is the center of God's water-works domain

Who stands up to God and lasts real long?
Will he sand off your corners
and turn you into his song?

One who stands strong and opposes this force
will slowly find out, 'bout a brand new course

Time, motion and friction
whispered patiently by sea,
will always destroy
all obstacles mighty!

The Ocean will break, split, crush and grind,
The toughest of materials known to mankind

When all is reduced to rubble, just sand,
there'll be no thing left, nothing to stand

When God is done with us
what will there be?
A Grand Golden Monument
or sand in the sea?
