Monster Poem by Helen White

Monster

Rating: 3.0

The Monster lives the Monster thrives
conditioning cloning scores of lives
stereotypes standards shopping for style
fabulous faces fickle and vile and pretentious.
A determined disinterest in everything real
in an altered world where to feel is surreal
fantastically unnatural.
Too much to see to no time to waste,
preening like peacocks parading in haste,
smiling and nodding confirming contentment,
inside boils a roaring resentment.
The race is being run and it’s global crucial brutal
and racers are racing forwards onwards upwards
clawing climbing menacing...
don’t look back...
mustn’t dare to care.
Stuff the consequences have to belong
do as they do
see what they see
hear what they hear
show off the assets the trinkets the pot, the lot.
Out with the old and in with the new
no time for reflection nothing to rue,
jump on the bandwagon stay in the queue,
sameness rules sticks like glue
do like I do or know that I’ll sue you for all that is yours
and it will be mine over time.
Believe all the hype see the unseen,
fantasy, virtual reality;
show house show room showcase show face
car wash white wash brainwash look posh,
look at me and know that I am the best
until a better best is unleashed.
The Monster reigns the Monster thrives
feigning interest in the lives of real people
who just won’t open their eyes.
