Money Must Be Spread Poem by gershon hepner

Money Must Be Spread

Money must be spread like dung
as if it really mattered,
but whether you are old or young
make sure your seed is scattered.
A penny saved a penny got,
but love is made for spending,
and when your girlfriend’s very hot
don’t waste your time befriending.
Get down to basics and go spread
yourself as you should money,
but make sure once your seed is shed
no business is funny.

Turnover is vanity,
say those who’re unattractive,
but more is not insanity,
at least while you are active.
Men of fashion never yield
to proverbs, said a Lord
whose name you may know, Chesterfield:
I say they do when bored.
I have no money, so I spend
my time by wryly writing
about it and my seed. My end
will be far less exciting.

In the NYT on December 1,2008 there is an Op-Ed Column called Op-Art, “A Stitch in Time, ” listing proverbs made up by Ben Schott, the author of “Schott’s Miscellany 20099”. One proverb is: MONEY, like DUNG, must be spread. Another is Turnover is vanity, PROFIT is sanity. Lord Chesterfield said: A Man of fashion never has recourse to proverbs.
