Mommy Math Poem by Jim Yerman

Mommy Math

I've heard of some first-time mothers who sometimes think the worst
When they wonder, "Will I love my second child, as much as I love my first? "

They look into the eyes of their first born and think, "I have so much love for you."
Then they rub their belly and wonder, "Will I have enough for two? "

The answer is quite simple and need not be problematical
When you stop to think about it...it is literally mathematical

It's called Mommy Math- a type of science you never learned in school
Because Mommy Math is unique and follows a different set of rules.

Mommy Math is universal and it's message is abiding
For there is no subtraction in Mommy Math and no room for dividing.

When you add a new life to your family your heart and soul have coincided
You don't subtract love from one child nor is your love divided.

No, something happens to you, as mothers before you have testified
When you gaze upon your new baby's face...your love is multiplied.

You peek into those innocent eyes and think, "I have so much love for you."
And suddenly you'll realize, "I have love enough for two."

Before you know it, like a miracle, and on this point many mothers agree
For you love each child separate...but you love them equally.

It defies all logic and reason how your love can be this strong
But as so many have learned before you... Mommy math is never wrong

So if you doubt or wonder about your love as you stroll life's wondrous path
Remember, the answer is quite simple....just stop and do the math.
