Mom Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

Mom

The years have not been really kind
Between us are the cruel miles,
I long to hold you and ease your mind,
And be with you even for a while.

The news about your health has numbed me-
Hazy thoughts prevent the tears.
I hope that from pain you are free
Though I'm tormented by these fears.

Five months ago we bid farewell
To your son, my loving brother,
And after that we could not tell
That Dad will follow just a month after.

The scores that Cancer had so taken
Leave us drained with no strength to call.
My heart is wrenched and I am broken,
Too pained to even cry at all.

And now it's you Mom, in its grip-
And Age is no longer your best friend,
Sorrow escapes from this daughter's lips
As dreadful days usher the end.

Mom, I love you... and how I miss you-
All I can give are my fervent prayers,
Whatever God's will is for you
I know He'll keep you in His faithful care.
