MODERN MANTRA!

An Indian philosopher had once
said, -
All that matters in this world of
date, -
Is a man’s bountiful purse and a
woman’s pretty face!
But I wonder what would happen
to us,
If God granted that boon given to
King Midas, *
And we exceed ourselves in our
greed, -
With gold to fulfill all our needs!
All pretty faces transformed to gold,
Bringing miseries untold, -
And all our souls frozen to gold! !

What that philosopher said was wrong...must be naievete...........beauty doesnt last long.....neither wealth..........even if wealth last long and it has capability to bring happiness then no one in the western country, which are rolling in the wealth, would commit suicide...........true happiness lies within.........independent of cause..................

Raj, you are so right the modern mantra, repeated again and again is for more wealth. Happiness lies inside us, to find it we must first stop desire for more possessions. We can start by being grateful for what we already have! Regards Bob Blackwell

very charming story of king midas, but i think the modern mantra is to be a minimalist.we aquire so much in our life time, sometimes have no use for them.the less we have happier we are internally.this poem is simply a very good one, and i enjoyed it.

The allegory behind the Story of King Midas has been rather glaringly missed out by Dr Hitesh Desai, as evident by his comments! But I am happy that others have appreciated the message, - inclusive of the humorous side of the poem, as brought out by young Nikunj Sharma! Thanks!
