Mocking Dream Poem by Barry Middleton

Mocking Dream

falling in love a time or two
and living near the lake
in the end was not enough
for these things did not last
just parts of another lost time

and when the rains came
I longed for the white cottage
the silver shining waters
to be in love once more
for someone to share the lightning

does every life fall short of dreams
filled with betrayal
so that the dream
becomes like a death's head
a wretched mocking from the clouds
