Miss Daisy's Antique Shop Poem by Dorothy (Alves) Holmes

Miss Daisy's Antique Shop

Today I kept a promise to myself
To stop in where the Antique Shop's
Flag teased in the breeze as a beacon
To come in, we are open.
I had made a thousand promises to myself
That I would be bold enough to turn onto
That gravel path, which led to Miss Daisy's door someday...
I decided today would be the day.

I entered into a place where memories glistened
From colored glass and crystal and an array of
Sparkling treasures that held the tale and wonder
of someone's life...
The rooms of Miss Daisy's Antique shop were
Beautifully filled with the elegance of a milliard
items, big and small.
Silent voices whispered in my ears,
'Look here, look there, these things filled our hearts
and homes with joy! '

My own memories spill over as I roamed and
Touched and enjoyed light conversation with
Miss Daisy and her real treasure and husband, John.
In my heart I knew I had found two new friends.

I was finally drawn to a beautiful green glass heart, which
I shall fill with pansies and give to someone I love.
This was a good day, ah, a blessed day.
