Misinterpretation Poem by Olivia Jade

Misinterpretation

Rating: 5.0

She looked upon the dreary world,
Into the shadows of the night
The people asked her to look further more
But she told them she saw a beautiful sight
They asked her to open her eyes
So she blinked once, twice, and again
And by the third time she opened her eyes,
She saw an ignorant and awful trend
For the people surrounding her in this world
Were so close minded, which made them all so weak
Because what she saw in front of her
Was so beautiful she could hardly speak
She asked once more what kind of creatures they were,
To not see the beauty right in front of their eyes.
Then turned around to see them all staring with great surprise
For never had anyone ever questioned their authority
Like that in these heinous times
She sadly turned away and realized,
This was a world full of lies.
And so through the darkness all they could see was what they were taught they should feel
Through it all they could not see the wonder of what was truly real
“Now I ask of you, ” she said, “as you did of me before,
Open your eyes and see what there is to explore
Experience new things again, and learn for yourself once more
For if you only know of what others teach you,
What the hell are you living for? ”

A nice poem of vision, with an apt title. 'For if you only know of what others teach you, What the are you living for? ' - That's right, a good question to ask at the end.

This is a poem of great quality and I'm taking it as a favorite. Its a ten for sure because of your creativity and the message that was so clearly transmitted. I wish I could find more poems like this one. GW62

Fantastic. You're someone who feels visionary. Glow of life and the sensation of existence - inebriated by it and no one else seems to experience it. I relate to this. Well done.

Hi Olivia, beautiful work and unique voice, i trust we will find more here soon! The poem reminds me of a line in the song 'starry starry night' written by Don Mclean for Vincent Van Gogh. At the end he says, 'i could've told u Vincent, this world was never meant for someone as beautiful as you.'

From one autodidactic poet to another (aparently) , I really enjoyed this poem - especially from one so young! If only more eyes were opened to this unseen or ignored truth and seek after the reality that lies hidden in the shadows - never to see the light of a news camera - there might be some hope for the planet! ! Thank you for your poem, Olivia. If you have the chance, I have one in a similar vein: 'Divided and Conquered' - juxtapose that with another, 'In The Waters Of Life' and I think you've rolled up two in one... Good job!
