Mirror Of Innocence Poem by Alfred Ramos

Mirror Of Innocence

Rating: 4.0

It’s like my life never happened
Because I didn’t want to hear my name
Reality really scares me
But then who am I to cast blame
Do we escape dreams with a sacred vow
And see a duality of illusions of the now
Am I the one in the mirror staring back
Inflating my ego for persuasions that I lack
Look into mirrors for glimpses of the future
Or is it despair that I must suture
Why it is that truth is full of turbulence
When we want our reflections to impel innocence
Yet a glance back is so illicit
Compounded into a stare so complicit
No shadows looking back at me
A grin hidden behind echoes of hypocrisy
Behind the eyes a spear of light
Channels through a curtain of blight
Letting through what needs to be seen
When the dust settles, left is the obscene
But don’t tell me you didn’t see it coming
Calendar pages fell as if running
Yet we brushed aside the grey
And the clock ticks faster every passing day
So do we willingly plead innocent
When we are prisoners of a chance event
As silence fogs the mirror
But speaks volumes of our fear
The path is clear
The day is near
When there will be no reflections
Only recollections
And if I possess one gift
It’s that I can plead the fifth
