Mind Maps Notwithstanding Poem by Lonnie Hicks

Mind Maps Notwithstanding

Rating: 2.7

Her map of the world is different than mine
there is no north south east or west
everything is centered in Middle-Earth
and all things had some similar priority.

I looked at it with her and she said
'In the center of my world are five things
all of the same priority, the kids,
my friends, my parents, my things,
our pets, and of course,
you my love.

She had gathered them all in the center of the map table
cosied up.

My map was completely different.
Mine was hierarchical.
At the top was my job.

And one ladder rung down was sex
(This did not make her top five)

Next in line was money
and then my family
and then my friends.

'Now, ' she said 'here is the problem;
we are running with different maps of the world.

Everything is important to me and
you have an importance hierarchy.

How can you decide that your job is more important than family?

He said, how can you decide all of your five are of equal import?
This leads to misunderstandings.

So we agreed after a while that the only explanation
for the survival of the human race was that both sexes
had an irrational attachment to one another
that we call love
because logically
these two
are not even on the same planet.

'Humm, she said 'I love you but I shouldn't.
'Humm, he said, 'True we have that in common
but little else. Let us call love factor x.
'Must be hormones.'
she said.
'Must be.' he said.
'Now what game is on tv today? '
'Don't know she said
got to get the kids to the soccer game, pick up mom
and do a wash.'
'Humm.' he said
