Miles And Miles In Combat Boots Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

Miles And Miles In Combat Boots

If I could have walked a mile in shoes
like yours, carrying a pack and rifle
through the sands of Iraq,
or the mud and snow of the Ardennes,
or the jungles of Guadalcanal,
or the rice paddies of Korea,
or the bloody fields of the Mekong,
I would have counted myself
among the fortunate few
who know better than those
grunts who bore the sacrifice
of losing life and limb
for the likes of you!
