Midnight Train Poem by Herbert Dry

Midnight Train

Standing at the depot waiting for the
midnight train

So deep in thought I hardly notice the
falling rain

It's late at night and I stand
here alone

Like all that stood here before me their thoughts
carry them home

The night sky is illuminated by lightning so
far above

The thunder rolls across the heavens o how I miss
my mothers love

The rain is falling harder now streaming down
my face

So many words I heard mama speak these words I
now embrace

Mixed with the sound of thunder I hear the
whistle blow

Through the falling rain I see it's light
burning low

She loved me before she saw me before I had
a name

Her open arms received me into her world
I came

The midnight train has arrived and taken
her away

But from her great and unconditional love I
shall never stray

All I have left is her memories her
love is here to stay
