Middle Class Laments – Sonnet #2 Poem by Stephanie Eve Kane Arado

Middle Class Laments – Sonnet #2

My paycheck never stretches far enough
Peanut butter sandwiches every month
Local resale shop my department store
Dollar General, macaroni galore
Popular with creditors, they call me
Turn off my cell phone and just let me be
Surfing the net at local libraries
Fine dining at fast food establishments
Occasional trips to lull my laments
Nature hikes a cheap way to spend the day
Swimming in lakes never costs anything
Gathering flowers and drying them out
Weaving wreathes with Hobby Lobby wire
Costs enough to help someone retire
Work more spend less throw the bills in the trash
Friday barbeques my suburban bash
