Michigan Poem by R.Benjamin Abate

Michigan

Your hand over my heart
Listenin' to my beat
When did we start
This Impossible dream

Full moon
Over us
Tank on empty
Such bad luck

Drivin' slow
Lookin' out for bucks
There's nothin' to know
No one to trust

Who are you, stranger
Sittin' next to me
On this adventure
We're makin' a movie

You paint a pedestal
On the frosty window
The love we stole
From friends & foes

You pull out an
Old picture
Covered in dust

It's your
Mom & Dad
In California

You smile
At me like
It's goin' to be us

The snow falls
In Michigan
Missin' home again

Another snowstorm
Another mysterious friend
But she's givin' me no fuss

You ask me
What's on my mind
I say, 'Nothin' Much.'

Casual and reflective, but optimistic.
