Michael Poem by Chey Lyon

Michael

I prayed that you would stay with me
But now death is all I see
I reach out for you
But my hand goes right through

You gave me the stars, the sun, the sky
I never thought that you would die
You gave me comfort in my despair
You never failed to care

I never wished to see you go
I thought this life went by too slow
But now that you’ve left me behind
To look for you I am inclined

You loved me when no one else did
Though from your prying eyes I hid
I begged for you to stay with me
But now your face is all I see

Michael, Michael, where have you gone?
What did you do wrong?
Everyday you helped you prayed
But soon all remembrance will be slain

I spoke to you with my own soul
But now I am but nearly whole
That hole you filled now bleeds out
You’re all that I can think about

Michael, Michael where have you gone?
Your forgotten remains lie under the lawn
Who could forget a soul like you?
It’s from your faith that kindness grew

Michael, Michael you gave me life
When I wanted nothing more but the knife
Your cheered me up when I was down
When the darkness was my crown

Michael, Michael though your gone
You holy purpose won’t be done
I will carry on your will
Even when your aching body’s still

Michael, Michael I won’t forget
For soon our souls will both be met
For this life of mine goes by too quick
Soon I also will be sick.
