Turn to the left
And burn just right
Sun kissed
Only nineteen and full of promise
Wonder how it would feel
To turn to the right
And know you haven’t left

Life’s full of second chances
But we’re running on thirds
And I’m afraid of losing my charm
I can only hope
I haven’t turned off the alarm
On your heart just yet
But we’ll see

Look ahead
To the caramel harvest
I hold within
Would you like it
The way this body feels
After sun loving
Or after winter
Window fogging
A deux

Don’t get this misunderstood
I’m keeping this tone light and bright
Not at all a la mode
But these words are just as skin tight
As my heart
On your sleeve

I’m keeping my lapses from grace
On purple legal pads
Where the words are the newest fad
Brutal honesty
That I’ve been practicing for years
But we’ll keep those out of sight

Especially when you think flowery prose
Of my lips and metaphors
Are mental challenges
You don’t know how to overcome
Do you know I have the mental pictures
Cause you make my mind
A train wreck

And I wish I had a mic check
Though we both know
I’d never read this all aloud
Not this far away
Where you can see

The naked posture of my words
My passion
My soul
