Mercy # 5 Poem by Eric Cockrell

Mercy # 5

Rating: 5.0

pray to God for a job,
work for milk, a loaf of bread.
trade your bodies for a tent,
leave your pride for the dead.

forget the things you were taught,
ball your fists and fight like hell.
just remember you were there,
when justice died and freedom fell!

and the hands on the clock
crawl like justice spurned.....
tick tock, tick tock,
mercy gives what mercy earns!

Eric, I just had to give each poem in this set a ten on their own merrit; however saved any comment for here at the finish; these poems are in my opinion very meaningful, powerful and important. What you speak so directly towards is not only governmental and corporate tragedy, but especially human tragedy. The pain of living that we are so often unwilling to help each other bear, knowing full well we should. Somehow in the spirit of love we must do what bit we are able to bear the burdens of each other. I applaude you for such good, and direct writing, your voice soars my friend up with the others who also sing out this just cause. - It reminds me somewhat of a line the poet Robert Burns (I beleive) once wrote: 'countless thousands mourn, due to man's inhumanity to man'. (that is most likely not verbatim, but close!) . You have written very well here, thanks for giving your voice...Bravo.
