Mercy # 4 Poem by Eric Cockrell

Mercy # 4

Rating: 5.0

Jesus saves, rob the graves,
take the spirit from the souls.
desecrate, humiliate,
all that glitters can be sold.

freedom's voice, no longer a choice,
sell the truth for a dime.
nameless faces, numbered traces,
head down marching in a line!

and the hands on the clock
crawl like justice spurned...
tick tock, tick tock,
mercy gives what mercy earns!

Jesus saves, rob the graves, take the spirit from the souls. A lesson we may all take from the accusations piled up against Jesus is, that if an honest innocent man is not guilty of a crime, then power and authority will invent the crimes and punish the innocent who stand for truth and the well being of the poor. Many accusations charges were made against Jesus, but he made no answer. Any who stand up for justice or the rights of others, be it Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela or Julian Assange, will be persecuted by a status quo which jealously coverts its authority and well. Until people are prepared to stand up and risk death for their rights, they will receive few rights, indeed rights will be stripped from them with political slogans like 'Homeland Security'. Now it seems the courage to fight for civil rights as passed to a young Arab generation. Hopefully they will fight for equal rights for all and not be corrupted by an illusion of power. Ultimate power rests with God, the souls of martyrs for peace, will receive a rich reward in heaven, and in the memories of those who appreciate what these souls were prepared to endure for us all, often eventually are forced to follow their lead; when righteousness demands action.

I love the ending. Justice in most cases is just for the rich. Good poem.
