Melting Grief Poem by Pankajam Kottarath

Melting Grief

Rating: 2.8

The young boy stood sad
away from excited teens
starting on a trip
that he pictured
himself, among others,
in his reveries
all in green and white
by the Dravidian coast
mighty rivers
with bathing elephants
mahogany forests and
magnificent hillocks,
all went out of range
from the crevices of his thoughts
before an emphatic "No" from Dad
followed by a firm censure -
"Don't moan for trivial" -
that left no smudging ends.
Transient clouds
on his sunken face
waiting to be dispensed
faded away instant
in the shades of love
swimming in
two cataract eaten eyes
and his timorous tears
went missing
in the warmth of a clasp,
and she called out to her son
in Malayalam
ente kuttiye shakarikkaruthu,
something mislaid
in today's digital routines.

("ente kuttiye shakarikkaruthu" Meaning: Please do not scold my kid)
