Meeting With Peter The Parrot Poem by Justin Gildow

Meeting With Peter The Parrot

Knowing I'd like to sail through the strait
And heeding the advice of Chief Bellcola
I'm on my way to a meeting with Peter the parrot
Who Chief Bellcola says is a descendant of Captain
Bell's parrot

Upon meeting Peter
It turns out he won't talk without a gift
So I tell him I'll be right back with a gift for him

Piloting my submarine through the tropical waters
I make my way to another island of Bellcola

On the other island of Bellcola
There's a hut where a fisherman resides
We greet each other and say hello
I tell him of my dilemma and what I'm going through
right now with Peter the parrot
He agrees to help me out by giving me a worm
Telling me that Peter will like that for a gift

After receiving the gift of the worm from the fisherman
I make my way back to my submarine
Sailing and submerging in and out through the tropical
waters
On my way back to Peter the parrot

Returning
I give the worm to Peter who loves the gift of the worm
He finally speaks to me
And tells me many words
Not sentences
Just words

After my meeting with Peter the parrot
I'm a bit puzzled
I'm not sure what to do
But the words he spoke to me must mean something
Something important

As Peter begins to sleep
I leave him be
And make my way back to my submarine
Ready to sail and submerge again in and out through
the tropical sea
And going over and over in my head
Of what Peter the parrot's words really mean
At least to me
