Matter Of Course Poem by Jayatissa K. Liyanage

Matter Of Course

Rating: 4.0

Those were the kids’ days when we met
to play hopscotch on the compound
Later we met in the college as mates
Very strange, we met again at interviews
seeking admission to same employment

How many times, you and I met at weddings
of who ever got in to wedlock, as bachelors!
Occasionally, we also met at kids’ birthday parties
singing “happy birthday” and tasting sugary stuff
merely for pleasing faithful parents

Wonder how long since we met last, as friends
for what ever reasons as our faiths had a count on!
Last few years again, recurrently, we were meeting
regularly at interments, parlors and‘ cemeteries
to share hastily, few bits ‘n pieces left out in memories

Sooner or later, be ware, our meeting may end sans notice
Don’t worry for not saying adieu, who ever goes first
Let that be as it may, but, don’t forget the fact that
some day some where, again, we shall meet
As faiths have designed for us in samsaric voyage

It is strange sometimes how these things happen. Nicely written, Jayatissa
