Marriage Of A Daughter In My Town Poem by Anil Kumar Panda

Marriage Of A Daughter In My Town

Rating: 5.0

Drums are beaten conchs are blown
On the roof top flags are flown

Gates are erected flowers are hewn
Garlands are made petals are strewn

Carpets are laid stages are erected
Dresses are bought jewellery are selected

Cards are given sweets are made
Curtains are hung of brighter shade

Packets are made of fruits and sweets
Walls are decorated with colourful lights

Dances are performed songs are sung
Days get shortened and nights seem long

Tears are gone smile adores faces
Scent and flowers hang onto cascading tresses

Tiny feet never feel tired to run
From faces old and young worry is gone

Hands are full with valuable gifts
With a smiling face to the guests she greets

Sky looks bright with crackers and lights
Clouds of petals make indolent flights

As the groom alights from the horse
Women rush to greet him ululating hoarse

The bride blushes as the groom is escorted
To the dais where she has for long waited

Children scurry along to get a glance
Of the pair whose hearts are full of romance

Blessings are poured kisses are thrown
Fire is lit and mandated rituals are done

A bond is made as husband and wife
Wishes are poured to start her married life

Tears flowed as she left her place of birth
I wish our daughter a life full of joy and mirth

So nicely written.Pictures of an Indian marriage come vividly through beautiful words. It is really a touchy scene when a daughter bids adieu to her parents, s home with tearful eyes and proceeds her in-laws house unsure of her fate lying there.
