Marcia Funebre Poem by Ahmad Shiddiqi

Marcia Funebre

Rating: 5.0

(dedicated to Mr. Alexei Volodin, a great pianist)

slowly
souls ascend
to highest palace

left all behind
the fame and victory
only love and hope, it brought

walk helplessly
to an unsurpassed forest
without friends or beloved ones

the snakes
imitate devil and crime
can we remove it from ourselves?

(inspired by Henri Rousseau's The Snake Charmer)
