Mangoes
A lady enters and glows
aye a platter garnished with pulp
neatly sliced fresh mangoes
yet I ain't eager to gulp
I stare at my books
books reading me..
Sometimes I stop her
at door, say No!
Sometimes I peck at one or two
rest to throw
Sometimes I let the flies invade
savor the mango
Strange! she never tires her labor
waits for a day I gain desire to devour
She is fond of mangoes so much so
she could survive entire season on them
enjoy eating day and night fro
ponders how the same gene differs in frame
I continue to stare at my books
books reading me..
At this foreign land
away from her glue
all of a sudden
out of blue
I miss those mangoes
in lieu of brew.

Mangoes are very good, indeed, but their best savour can be tasted where they grow.. just taken from the tree.. - unfortunately, not in Italy.. thanks for sharing, Shreej
We are fortunate in that matter! We get to see mangoes at their best and now with the recent earthquake and these aftershocks we can even enjoy mango shakes: -p thank you for your nice comment sir :)

I love mangos and I love this poem. Just returned to the U.S.A. after spending twenty months in Brazil. As Fabrizio said, they are best when they come ripe straight from the tree. We enjoyed them there year round. I even wrote a poem about them called Monkeys and Mangos. They are mentioned in a couple of my other poems also.
Thank you for your nice words..'Monkeys and Mangoes' reminded me of this off season fruit! We don't get them fresh at this time of year here in Nepal.
